BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING

19 October 2006

A meeting of the board of Governors, 63d Infantry Division Association (USAR) was convened by COL Alfred Diaz, President, at the Sizzler Restaurant, Fullerton CA.

COL Diaz called the meeting to order at 11:45 hours and announced the presence of a quorum, followed by the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

Upon motion by CW4 Carson and second by 1SG McDonald, the board unanimously approved the minutes of 30 March 2006 as amended by COL Diaz.

Upon motion by LTC Smith and second by 1SG McDonald, the board unanimously approved the financial statement submitted by MAJ. Edgerly

Committee Reports:

National interest: SGM Arnold Greenberg informed the Board about the Widow's Disparity in the current SBP. COL Diaz discussed the 2007 Defense Approbation Bill passed by both houses and conference committee. There would be no increase in Tricare fees for one year. All drilling reservists would be eligible for Tricare. Military pay COLA is 2.2 % this year. The reserve retirement pay age was not changed. PayDay loans are limited to 36% interest. SGM Arnold Greenberg received a DVD from the Citizen Flag Alliance. CFA activities will be quiet until the amendment can be reintroduced next session.

Publications:

Blade: 240 Copies of the September Blade Were mailed. Comment was made that the color of this Blade was very nice. LTC Wirth explained that MG Josten was donating the cost of printing of the Blade as long as he could use partial reams of paper which is the cause of the varied colors of paper used for the Blade. LTC Wirth informed the board that he would need the input for the next Blade NLT than 1 December 2006. He would mail the Blade out by the end of December.

Annual Reports: No scheduled activity at this time.

Membership: CW4 Carson stated that he has 192 members on his rooster. He has one new life member, COL William J. Ward.

Planning for 2007 Annual Meeting:

Hotel: A contract was signed with the Four Points Hotel, Fullerton for next years Annual Meeting on 22 April 2007 starting at 1100 hours through 1800 hours. The menu would be the same as last year. Tickets for the Annual Meeting would be $34.00 prior to 1 April 2007 and $39.00 after 1 April 2007. We have reserved 10 rooms at the $89.00 plus tax rate for those who want to spend the night before or after at the Four Points Hotel. Call the hotel at 888-627-8069 and ask for the 63d Infantry Division Association rate. We will be paying $150.00 for the hospitality room from 1800 hours to 2200 hours on Saturday April 21th, 2007. We will be asking for support from the members attending this gathering for snacks and beverages.

Color Guard: COL Diaz will secure a Color Guard for the Annual Meeting.

Speaker: SGM George Ichimura and SGM Thomas Gorden Jr. will contact a friend (SGM) who just returned from Iraq to speak about his experiences. They will report back by the next Board Meeting.

New Business: Amendment of the Constitution and Bylaws for the Association The constitution needs to be modified to remove any implied restriction for members of the 63rd Infantry Division Association WWII from joining our Association. COL Diaz will submit a draft of this change at the next Board meeting.

The next scheduled meeting of the Board of Governors will be on 18 January 2007 at 11:30 AM. The following meeting will be 5 April 2007 at 11:30 AM. The location will be The Sizzler Restaurant 2980 Yorba Linda Blvd Fullerton, CA (Take 57 Fwy exit # 8, Yorba Linda, drive East on Yorba Linda Blvd.)
